Fund Raising ... Skate Equipment

Fund Raising
URGENT! On behalf of World T.E.A.M. Sports we are asking for your tax-deductible donations to support sports-based community outreach programs. We are trying to raise $10,000 for the cause. The latest expression of WTS's Mission is a cross-country event called the Face of America which runs from May 13th until June 3rd. Our personal donations, and those from close friends and family, are still well short of our $10,000 fundraising goal. PLEASE SEND your CHECKS to World T.E.A.M. Sports (payee), 2108 South Boulevard, Suite 101, Charlotte, NC 28203. Please indicate that the donations are in honor of "inline skaters" or specifically in honor of June Solomon and Zack Phillips.

The Face of America will leave lasting legacies for the communities and individuals it touches. It will be a sporting and humanitarian event that will be different from anything our nation has ever experienced. The Face of America message is threefold: the importance of fitness for everyone, the need for diverse individuals to work together, and the benefits of environmentally friendly transportation/recreation. The 22-day journey will be comprised of community outreach events and human-powered transportation. This event, due to it's message and it's support from high-profile athletes, civic leaders, and politicians, will directly touch hundreds of thousands along the 4,000-mile route that stretches from San Francisco to Boston, and indirectly touch millions via the media, including live coverage on CNN and a documentary on the Outdoor Life Network.

Inline Skating Equipment Needs
In addition to financial contributions we are seeking support from the inline skating industry. June and I are the "inline skate specialist" on the West Coast Team and plan to skate most of the 2,200 mile route. We have extensive distance skating experience including multiple New York 100K's, Athens-to-Atlanta 85 milers and San Francisco to Los Angeles Skate Against Violence relays.

We view Face of America, not only as a great way to promote diversity, fitness and environmental preservation, but also as a great opportunity to promote inline skating and your quality inline skate products.

With your products we will be able to demonstrate that inline skating is comparable to bicycling in terms of fitness, feasibility and environmentally friendliness - and it's more fun!! While traveling across the country we will encounter many types of terrain - terrain most people would not consider attempting on inline skates! The equipment listed below will help us make it happen. The quantities noted below reflect our combined need, for instance, we're requesting twelve sets of wheels, or six sets each.

  • Two (2) speed skate and frame sets designed to be lightweight, durable and enhance stroke efficiency since we'll have to keep pace with bicyclist and handcyclist on a daily basis.
  • Two (2) off-road/rough-road skates designed to overcome adverse conditions such as shoddy asphalt, unpaved trails and wet weather.
  • Two (2) commuter skates designed to enable quick transition from skating to walking thereby accommodating swift arrival and departure at communities and outreach programs along the route.
  • Two (2) sets of protective gear designed to provide maximum protection with minimum weight and bulk thereby reducing the offset to skating efficiency.
  • Twelve (12) sets of wheels formulated for various road conditions.
  • Four (4) sets of bearings designed for maximum speed and minimal maintenance.
  • Two (2) bearing lube/cleaning kits designed for efficient and effective lubrication and cleaning of bearings.
  • A vast amount of stickers and other premiums for distribution to skaters and wannabe skaters on the team and in the communities we visit.
  • And, just in case someone out there has the technology, one (1) specially designed helmet, which allows Zack's unique soccer ball hairstyle to be visible, yet provides adequate protection.

The Face of America will be the most embracing sporting and humanitarian event of the new millennium and your generous support will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

June Solomon & Zack Phillips
